            UMD's Richards Signs with NHL's New York Rangers

            University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) junior center Justin Richards became the third Bulldog from the 2019-火红彩票代理 roster to agree to an NHL contract. Richards announced he was headed to play for the New York Rangers.

            Serving as UMD's assistant captain, Richards skated in 34 games registering a career-high 14 goals and 11 assists. He was selected as the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Defensive Forward of the Year for the second time in his career. He also tied for the NCAA lead in shorthanded goals with three, which is the most by a Bulldog in eight years.

            Richards comes from an NHL family. His father is currently an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

            He becomes the is the 21st Bulldog since 2007 to leave UMD early for for the pros. He's the second from the 2019-火红彩票代理 roster to leave early. Junior defenseman Scott Perunovich agreed to a two-year deal with the St. Louis Blues last week.
